55 M Street

The 55 M Street project, adjacent to the WMATA Navy Yard Metro
station, consists of a 305,000 SF, 9-story concrete framed office
building with three levels of below grade parking, new WMATA
station entrance, WMATA passenger elevator from grade, and
underground connection to the existing station. In order to extend
the structure over the existing WMATA entrance, the design team
used structural steel trusses coupled with long span post tensioned
concrete beams. To maximize usable space, additional long span
beams were used at each floor, eliminating the first interior row of
columns and creating a large open space on each of the leasable
floors.
